Scripture Study for the week of  August 7, 2005

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.(1 Peter 3:13-15)

"sanctify the Lord God in your hearts” The first step must occur within ourselves. Our heavenly Father requires that our private devotion be as authentic as our public profession. If we are not in fellowship with God He will not bless us to lead observers to a closer walk with Him.

"be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you." This designates previous preparation. Too often Christians enter discussions about their hope in Christ without significant study to defend their faith.

Desire alone will not convey to others an understanding of what we have in Christ Jesus.“ meekness and fear."  After extensive biblical study if we enter a discussion with the idea that we can prove to someone what we believe, we need this third point.   The Holy Spirit uses tender prayerful hearts.  Others are won to our Lord both by sufficient explanation of God, and  by a genuine dependence upon God. Let us become well prepared and let us be always upon our knees.
