Scripture Study for the week of  August 14, 2005

Only two and one half percent of the world’s population is out right atheist. It is logical to believe in God. “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.” (Ps 19:1-3). The existence of God cannot be disproved. 1) One would have to be everywhere to prove God is not somewhere and there is not a person who is omnipresent. 2) One would have to be all knowing to emphatically state he knows there is no God and there is not a person who is omniscient. The design of creation demands a designer; the effect of all around us demands a cause; the existence of being, place, and time demand an eternal, infinite, being.

“God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device (Acts 17:24-29).

Someone is there. Someone cares. We are not alone in this universe. The eternal God is an infinite yet personal Being and we are His offspring. As His creation we are to seek for knowledge of Him, we are to seek to feel after Him. “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead” (Acts 17:30-31). How can He ever receive guilty sinners into His presence, those who perhaps have even doubted His existence? He is the eternal God that has given His Son Jesus Christ to pay the price for sins. Guilty laden sinners have the assurance their sins have been put away because Jesus Christ arose from the dead (Romans 4:25). God is not an impersonal external force, nor an internal figment of imagination. Does the Holy Spirit bear witness in your heart “in the beginning God”? It is safe to believe “In the beginning God”, because He is the God that loved guilty sinners and gave His Son to secure their salvation.
