“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep” John 10:11. The Lord Jesus Christ states that his work upon the cross was made for the elect only. In his sacrifice upon the cross the Son of God. . .
-
Became a curse for them for whom he died, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree” (Galatians 3:13).
- Purged the sins of those for whom he died, “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:3).
- Perfected forever those for whom he died, “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified” (Hebrews 10:14).
- And thereby removed any charge of sin levied against those for whom he died “Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us” (Romans 8:33-34).
Our study text clearly states that Jesus died for the sheep. We also conclude that he died for the elect only because of what he accomplished for those for whom he died. If he died for all mankind, and accomplished what our supportive texts indicate, then any suffering in hell eternally would actually be innocent and be punished unjustly. This could never be. Those punished eternally suffer for their sins because Christ did not become a curse for them, he has not purged their sins, they were not perfected by his death, and their sins therefore are charged against them for ever and ever.
