Scripture Study for the week of  November 27th, 2005

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:3-4). The inheritance of heaven is sure for God’s elect; they shall never be eternally lost...

This text gives us four comforts surrounding the truth of our inheritance in heaven.

The inheritance of heaven is incorruptible. Any inheritance upon earth may be spent or wasted and come to nothing. Heaven is an estate that cannot be squandered; God’s children are preserved in Jesus Christ (Jude 1).

The inheritance of heaven is undefiled. It is possible to receive an inheritance in this life that is contaminated or has a judgment against it. Heaven is pure, perfect, and sinless. Heaven is all righteousness, holiness, and peace (I Thess 5:23).

The inheritance of heaven does not fade. Joy upon this earth may change. Heaven will never be altered. It is the ultimate and infinite of pleasantness forever and ever (Ps 17:15, I Pe 5:4)

The inheritance of heaven is reserved. It is possible for an earthly inheritance to be improperly distributed. Heaven’s inheritance is reserved for God’s children; they shall receive it. It is sure; it is the same as if it was already bestowed (Ro 8:28-30).
