Scripture Study for the week of  December 11th, 2005

“Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you” (1 Cor. 11:2). The Apostle Paul relates to us that the Lord ordained for believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to observe the ordinances of the church. This includes baptism . . .

Baptism is a confession of one’s faith in Christ, (Acts 8:12, and 36-37).

Jesus commanded the apostles to preach the gospel and baptize those who believe, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19).

Baptism is to depict the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus and therefore it is by immersion, (Romans 6:1-5)

Believers are to commit their lives to Christ by baptism right away and not to prolong their obedience, (Acts 22:16).
