Scripture Study for the week of  February 5th, 2006

“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3). The world finds blessing in self-assertiveness, self-confidence, and self-esteem, but do you find yourself coming up short? This passage says the poor in spirit are blessed though their assessment of merit before God is lacking.

The poor have the glorious news of Christ’s redemption preached to them (Mt 11:5).

They have the promise that the Lord looks over them (Isa 66:2).

The Father in heaven hears the prayers of the poor (Ps 69:33).

The Lord helps and delivers the poor (Ps 40:17).

The Lord prepares goodness for the poor (Ps 68:10)
