Study for the week of April 17th, 2006
“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8). Has your pursuit of happiness been in terms of being holy? This passage connects the two and explains happiness in terms of seeing God. In the new birth the Spirit of God writes God’s law upon the tables of the heart (II Cor 3:3) and . . .
Blessedness is only found in being obedient to the Spirit that dwells within (Jn 13:17). Psalm 24:3-5 speaks to our study: “Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation”. Just as heaven would not be happiness to the impure, only the pure gain a foretaste of heavens blessedness now. Just as God will not overlook our impurity, we cannot see through our unrepentant impurities and look upon him. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
