Scripture Study for the week of  June 26th, 2006

Paul mentions joy more that 12 times in Philippians. How did he rejoice while in prison? He focused on Christ. Often the main trouble in matters of discouragement is that we allow circumstances or individuals to speak to us instead of speaking to ourselves in God’s truth. More . . .

Paul spoke of God’s work to be performed until the “day of Christ” (1:6), his imprisonment as “bonds in Christ” (1:13), that to die was “to be with Christ” (1:23), and to live was to become “the gospel of Christ” (1:27). Paul said there was consolation “in Christ” (2:1), that he had “trust in the Lord Jesus” (2:19), he could loose all for “excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus” (3:8), and that the peace of God would keep “hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (4:7). Forty times he mentions Christ in the four chapters of Philippians. If Christ is mentioned in every chapter of our lives we also will have real joy.
