Study for the week of July 10th, 2006
Though Paul was in adverse conditions his focus on Christ gave him the joy of humility. The Apostle did not call himself and Timothy sensations, but servants. “Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons” (Philip. 1:1)..
Servants of the Lord realize that all they have in talent, treasure, and time is from the Lord and to be used for the Lord. “For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?” (1 Cor. 4:7). Servants do not pant for distinction or thirst for applause. “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content” (1 Tim. 6:6-8).
