Study for the week of October 31st, 2006
Worry is not joyful. Instead, Paul says “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Ph 4:6). Studies in worry show 40% never happens, 30% cannot be changed, 12% is imagined health issues, 10% is worry about friends, neighbors, or family that is unnecessary. Only 8% is legitimate concern. More . . .
Instead of worry, we are to make supplication to the Lord, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Ph 4:6). Secondly we are to occupy our minds in blessed meditation, “whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Ph 4:8). Thirdly, instead of worry, we are to make application of God’s commands, “Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you” (Ph 4:9). God will take care of you, you are of more value than many sparrows (Mt 10:31).
