Scripture Study for the week of November 7th, 2006

“I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need” (Ph 4:11-12). Paul did not base contentment upon an abounding life; neither did he give up contentment when he was suffering need. More . . .

Joni Eareckson Tada who was injured as a teenager and became a quadriplegic could not reconcile her condition with a belief in God loving her. A friend told her that Jesus knew how she was feeling because the Savior in submission to God couldn’t move or change positions on the cross. This realization comforted Joni and God became very close to her. Having no other identity, but God, he became enough to Joni. In submission to the Lord we find contentment. Paul taught profoundly when he said, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Ph 4:13).
