Study for the week of December 18th, 2006
The grace of God is the Lord blessing when He is not obligated to bestow blessing. Grace is God granting favor to those who have no right to favorable treatment. Grace is God delivering those who are hell deserving. The Old Testament account of Hosea and Gomer displays the astounding message of grace.
The Lord instructed Hosea to marry a harlot named Gomer (Hos 1:2). Hosea and Gomer had two children (Hos 1:3-6), but Gomer sold herself back into sin. God asked Hosea to exercise grace and purchase Gomer out from her degradation (Hos 3:1-3). Just so, God in grace by Christ’s blood purchased wretched sinners a home in heaven. Amazing grace indeed!
